How We Teach & Support
It's the little things we do to support an individualised learning program that get us the big resultsHow we teach and support
Our entire teaching staff is dedicated to the detail and we want to ensure every child achieves to their own potential.
This means ensuring we have a robust system of teaching and support that not only caters to the average (or middle student) – but also the advanced student or the student that needs some extra support.
For learning to take place we need to ensure that every child feels safe, happy and confident within themselves – and so a huge emphasis is placed on a strong wellbeing and support program that achieves just that!
Advanced Learners
In every class at Bimbadeen we have children who are advanced learners. All children have individual learning goals that are developed in consultation with the teacher and are designed to extend every child to their maximum potential. For advanced learners the teachers will provide work that is at their ‘point of learning’. In some cases this may be as simple as children borrowing books from higher year levels or completing work from a secondary school Maths book. It may also involve lateral extension where these children are encouraged to think more deeply about a topic or present their work in a different way. We have taken some of our advanced learners to Mooroolbark Secondary College for special learning activities in a specific subject to extend their learning in that area.
Children who show potential are also encouraged to sit the International Competitions and Assessments in Schools, (ICAS), tests in Reading, Writing, Spelling, Maths, Science and/or ICT. Bimbadeen Heights pays for these tests for our highest achieving students so that those children can get a detailed report to help them with further learning as well as receive a certificate that can be used to help with entry into their preferred, possibly a select entry, secondary school.

Moving Schools
It is not uncommon for families to move and children need to change school during their Primary School Years. When this happens we find out as much as we can about the child and their learning needs and place them in the most suitable class. Bimbadeen children generally love to have new students in their class as they see them as prospective new friends. It can be very daunting for some children to walk into an established class so we arrange for a brief visit prior to them starting so they can meet their new teacher and classmates and can see the friendly faces. On the first
