Inclusion & Support
Positive. Supportive. Engaging
We celebrate diversity within our school community and recognise the unique strengths, abilities, and potential of every child.
Inclusion & Support
At Bimbadeen Heights Primary School, we are committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where every student has equal access to a quality education and the opportunity to thrive — not just survive. We celebrate diversity within our school community and recognise the unique strengths, abilities, and potential of every child.
Our inclusive education approach is guided by the Department of Education’s Disability Inclusion model, the Disability Standards for Education (2005), and all relevant policies and procedures. We are also committed to meeting our legal obligations under the Equal Opportunity Act 2010, the Disability Discrimination Act 1992, and the Disability Standards for Education 2005 to make reasonable adjustments that accommodate students with disability. Together, these frameworks ensure every student’s right to participate fully in
school life, with fair and equitable access to education, learning adjustments, and the supports they need to thrive.
We implement a tiered response to intervention model, providing proactive, targeted, and individualised support where required. This includes:
- Tier 1: Quality differentiated teaching practice — ensuring our core teaching
strategies are inclusive and accessible for all learners. - Tier 2: Targeted small group interventions — offering additional support to students who may require short-term or group-based adjustments.
- Tier 3: Individualised support — delivering tailored, intensive interventions and reasonable adjustments for students with specific, complex needs.
Our team works in partnership with students, families, and allied health professionals to design and implement adjustments that remove barriers to education and participation.
These may include curriculum modifications, specialised equipment, alternative assessment arrangements, or personal care support.
At Bimbadeen Heights Primary School, inclusion is not just a practice — it’s a core value. We are dedicated to building a vibrant, welcoming, and equitable school community where every student feels valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential.
Together, we create a school where every student belongs, is supported, and has the opportunity to thrive.
Our School Values
At BHPS, we focus on teaching four core values that guide our behaviour:
1. Respect – Treating everyone with care, kindness, and appreciation. This includes respecting yourself, others, property, and the environment.
2. Compassion – Being kind, understanding, and willing to help others, especially those who may be different from you.
3. Resilience – Showing strength and confidence in difficult situations. This means not giving up and staying positive even when things are hard.
4. Integrity – Acting honestly, fairly, and respectfully toward others, and always being truthful.
We use a Behaviour Matrix across the school to remind students of these values and how they should behave in different situations.
Why is SWPBS Important?
SWPBS helps create a positive and safe learning environment by:
● Teaching students the right way to behave.
● Preventing problems before they happen.
● Encouraging students to make good choices, both socially and academically.
SWPBS is a ‘wraparound’ approach, meaning it involves input from everyone – teachers, staff, students, families, and the local community – to support students’ success and integral to our school culture.
BHPS Value Token Acknowledgement System
To help students stay motivated and engaged, we use a Value Token Acknowledgement System. This system rewards students for making positive choices and showing the behaviours we value.
This ensures:
● Encourages Positive Behaviour: Students are more likely to repeat positive actions when they are rewarded.
● Motivates Students: When students can choose rewards that matter to them, they stay engaged and motivated.
● Builds a Positive School Culture: Schools that reward good behaviour create a safer, more welcoming environment for everyone.
● Shows Progress: Rewards provide students with a clear sign of their progress and success.
● Positive Feedback: Students learn what’s expected by receiving praise and rewards for following the rules.
At BHPS, students are recognised and rewarded for their effort, and their achievements help create a positive, encouraging school culture.
