Instructional Model

At Bimbadeen Heights Primary School, our instructional approach is guided by the Victorian Teaching and Learning
Model (VTLM 2.0), which is grounded in contemporary research on how students learn most effectively. The VTLM
2.0 emphasizes explicit teaching, ensuring that learning is clear, targeted, and accessible to all students, including
priority cohorts. The model is built on two key sets of elements: Elements of Learning, which draw from cognitive
science, neuroscience, and educational psychology to inform the learning process, and Elements of Teaching, which
focus on evidence-based practices that best support student learning. These include planning, enabling learning,
explicit teaching, and supported application. By integrating these principles into our daily practice, we strive to
create a learning environment that fosters strong academic outcomes, student wellbeing, and effective classroom
management.
