Performing Arts Clubs

Developing skills far beyond the classroom

Music at Bimbadeen Heights Primary School combines both the music and drama strands of the Victorian curriculum.

Performing Arts

The Performing Arts program at Bimbadeen Heights Primary School aims to engage all students in every aspect of joyful music, dance and drama activities. Children will sing, listen, watch, play, move, create, improvise, perform, read and write in ways appropriate to their experience and developmental level. The emphasis is on practical music, dance and drama making activities and having fun while learning.

In addition to Performing Arts skills, we strive to build the confidence and resilience of every student. Furthermore, problem solving, working creatively together and the necessity of everyone’s contribution to the work at hand are important in Performing Arts classes. These skills will not only be helpful in the Performing Arts space but will become lifelong strengths for our students.

Each class prepares an item for the End of Year Christmas Concert where we celebrate the year with the whole school community. Performing Arts clubs, such as the ukulele club, meet at lunchtimes in certain terms across the year.

Through songs, movement and stories the youngest children begin to learn about Music and communication and expression through body and voice. At Years Three and Four the focus on ukulele lessons builds on these experiences and musical understandings. The students work on using their voice clearly and with meaning and how their body language can portray a character or emotion. They experience different dance styles and explore the impact of the elements of dance. Year Five and Six students work in groups to create their own music works. Students work with short scripts and improvise their own stories. They use their creativity to develop movement sequences considering choreographic devices and dance elements.

It’s not the curriculum that we offer that sets us apart...

....it’s the manner in which it’s delivered. Our teachers actively and passionately explore the possibilities of making their teaching practice more innovative, engaging and fun at every turn. This is the single ingredient that drives the most growth in our students.

Curriculum that Inspires
