Physical Education
Healthy minds & healthy bodies
Making the connection between having a healthy body & healthy mind through various physical activities.
Physical Education
Our aim is to promote healthy bodies and healthy minds through our brilliant P.E. program.
Every student participates in a weekly Physical Education class. Foundation students start by learning fundamental motor skills, with an emphasis on fair play and cooperation. In Years 1 and 2, students build on these foundational skills, practicing ball handling and playing minor games that encourage skill application in game situations. From Years 3 to 6, the focus shifts to major team games, where students refine their motor skills while learning team strategies and sportsmanship. Athletics is also introduced at this level to prepare students for district inter-school competitions.
Interschool Sport
Students in Years 3 to 6 are provided with exciting opportunities to compete with peers across the Lilydale District in various athletic events. In addition to athletics, selected students are chosen to represent the school in district-level cross country and swimming competitions, giving them a chance to showcase and refine their skills in different disciplines.
In Year 6, students participate in round-robin sports days during Terms 2 and 3. For these events, they submit a list of preferred sports, allowing them to explore their interests and try new activities in a friendly, team-oriented setting. The program emphasizes active participation and the importance of “giving it a go,” fostering a supportive environment where all students feel encouraged to engage and enjoy themselves.
Students in Year 4 and 6 are given the opportunity to participate in HoopTime, a round robin basketball tournament administered by Basketball Victoria where students will be able to compete against other schools.
At the same time, the program celebrates sporting excellence, with pathways for both individuals and teams to progress to higher levels of competition. Students have the opportunity to compete at the District, Division, Region, and even State levels, broadening their experiences and promoting teamwork, dedication, and resilience.
Perceptual Motor Program (PMP)
All Foundation students participate in weekly sessions of PMP, a program that supports young children in developing essential physical skills. These sessions involve activities that enhance balance, coordination, spatial awareness, and motor skills, providing a strong foundation for future physical learning. The program incorporates fun, hands-on exercises that engage students in movement-based tasks, helping to build their confidence and physical literacy.
Swimming Program
Selected year levels take part in our comprehensive swimming program, designed to build water safety awareness and develop essential swimming skills. As part of this program, which runs at Aquahub in Croydon, students are assessed to determine their current skill level. Based on this, students are grouped into small, ability-specific classes, allowing for tailored instruction that meets each childs needs.
Year Level Sport
Intra-school sport is played weekly for students in Years 1 – 6. This allows children to practise skills learnt during Physical Education Lessons. In year 5 and 6, this also allows time to train with their team for inter school sport.
Bimbadeen Basketball League (BBL)
Students in years 3-6 are given the opportunity to compete in the BBL, which runs scheduled basketball matches on Friday lunch times. In semester 1, the 3/4s compete, with the 5/6 season running in semester 2. Scores are tracked from this and the season concludes with finals for qualifying teams.
